I enjoy the suspense around Nobel Prizes; however, I am a fiend for the MacArthur Fellows, also named in October. The MacArthur Foundation brands 25 Americans of broad diversity – in age, gender, race, background, and expertise, including art, science, academia, medicine, law, and more – as “genius.” And with that honor comes an $800,000 stipend, paid to the Fellow over five years, no strings attached.
With the label “genius” comes the added of gift of credibility; the significant funding offers the luxury of time. I am inspired by the freedom that comes with confidence and time. What would you do with a MacArthur Fellowship? What is possible if the magic formula is confidence + time?
