The word “accountability” requires explanation. The first definition that pops up on my browser is: Accountability is when an individual or department experiences consequences for their performance or actions.
Merriam-Webster says it is a willingness or obligation to explain one’s actions or to admit being the cause of a problem.
Some say it is being responsible. Others believe it is acting like an owner.
Accountability can be all those definitions. But the very core of accountability is being clear about what we expect. Let’s first make sure that we understand our terms.
Oh, and effective accountability is 180 degrees different from blame.
