My dear colleague and friend Josh Freeman once taught me his Two Lollipop Theory:

Suppose you gave Alex two lollipops yesterday, and you gave Pat nothing. Today, you give Alex and Pat each one lollipop. Pat is thrilled, but Alex is upset. They both got the same number of lollipops today. In fact, Alex received three over the past two days, while Pat only received one. Yet today, Pat is grateful and Alex wonders why “only one”.

To really understand the complexities of our world, we need to listen deeply and learn from others. Context and history matter.
