I recently joined a local team of amateur cookie bakers delivering treats and joy to front-line workers – hospitals, first-responders, veterinarians, senior living caretakers. My intention was to contribute to those doing some of the hardest work this past year; unexpectedly, it has offered a big dollop of wellness for me in return.
I haven’t baked cookies in decades and it brings back so many memories of childhood, family, neighborhood, and unbridled play. The aroma, the action of dropping cookies on the baking sheet, packaging them with care, and adding “thank you” stickers was just what I needed. And so, for my small investment in taking care of caregivers, they have yet again provided care in return.
