Enjoying the high success of Virginia collegiate and other amateur programs, I have been riveted by sports a lot this month. And I’m excited for the Tokyo Olympic Games, hoping they can be safely held in July.
I believe it’s time to remove the modifier “female” when referencing stand-out athletes, pro or amateur. Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky and James Madison University’s softball pitcher, hitter, and fielder extraordinaire Odicci Alexander are exceptional athletes. period. No gender adjective needed.
