I believe in science… Except that I also believe animals are compassionate, altruistic, and whatever other empathetic human characteristic I want to lay on them. (Science tells us animals are simply doing what serves them best.)
I grew up laughing with the dolphins at Virginia Beach, confident Lassie was really saving Timmy, and certain about the stories of elephants guiding flailing animals to the river shore.
I wish I was as quick to assume best intent from people. That would be a real stress reliever.
