Increasing engagement internally and externally for a children’s nonprofit
“We’ve been doing strategic plans for years and years and I have never been through a process as good as this one.”
Situation:
One of the longest continuously operating children’s nonprofit in the country has done a successful job with strategic planning in the past. This year they were setting their 3-5 year plan and believed it would be helpful to have a planning facilitator heighten the engagement of their Board, Leadership team, staff and some external key stakeholders.
Solution:
We conducted numerous community interviews, surveyed the entire staff, and facilitated meetings with the Board and Leadership team. The CEO, COO and Board members remarked about the high levels of interest, collaboration and insights generated by this process. After completion, they had a very aligned and focused set of strategic priorities where all felt their voices were heard.
Results:
Everyone feels like they understand, own and are well-focused on the most meaningful priorities for the next 3-5 years. The budget and first year’s annual plan have been developed to ensure that their strategic initiative is launched well and momentum and progress builds immediately. All members of the executive team understand their accountabilities to each priority and they have a process of meeting rhythms and critical metrics to measure progress.
